How it works
1
Choose the car
Make, model and first-registration date, or the registration-certificate details directly. We only ask what the calculation needs.
2
Get the amount with its source
Registration tax, environmental levy, VAT and the other costs. Every line says whether it comes from the law, from your input or from an estimate.
3
Keep or share the calculation
A PDF with every step, or a link that reproduces exactly the same calculation. No account needed.
An example under the 2026 rules
Calculated with the same code the calculator uses:
- First registered June 2021, registered in Greece November 2026
- List price €21,500, Euro 6d, CO₂ 128 g/km (WLTP)
- 75,000 km
Registration tax
€1,320.12
Rules GR-RT-2025.07.1
Hypothetical example. The list price is illustrative, not taken from an AADE price list; use the calculator for your own car.
What you pay for a car from the EU
- Registration tax, from the Greek list price, age, mileage, CO₂ and Euro standard.
- An environmental levy for Euro 4 (€3,000) and Euro 5 (€1,000).
- 24% VAT only if the car counts as new (under 6 months or up to 6,000 km).
- Transport, KTEO inspection, registration certificate, plates and road tax.

Frequently asked questions
How is registration tax calculated for a used car from the EU?
From the Greek pre-tax retail price of the same model when it was first released, reduced for age and mileage, with bracket rates that change with CO₂ and Euro standard (law 5222/2025).
Do I pay VAT on a used car from Germany?
No, if it is more than 6 months from first registration, has more than 6,000 km and you buy as a private person. Otherwise it counts as new and you pay 24% VAT in Greece.
Do I need an account?
No. The calculator works fully without an account. Download the result as a PDF or copy a link that reproduces the same calculation.
How accurate is it?
The statutory formula is applied to the cent and checked against AADE’s official worked example. Accuracy depends on the inputs, mainly the list price and Euro standard. Where something is uncertain, you see a range instead of one amount.
Are cars from the UK or Switzerland supported?
No. They are outside the EU; importing involves customs duty and a different procedure that is not calculated here.
